Filmmaker Receives Death Threat After Release of Fictional Comedy Trailer for Movie “My Hometown”

(PRWEB) February 06, 2012

His hometown residents should be kissing his ass, not threatening him, said Del Weston, CEO of the Action On Film International Festival in Los Angeles where the movie My Hometown placed second, worldwide, for Outstanding Cast Performance, and was also nominated for Best Produced Screenplay. Not only did Jomar Entertainment allow over 300 local residents, city workers, and businesses the chance to be in this movie, but it offers a shot to put Peabody on the tourists map. Revenue to the city could skyrocket. Look what The Perfect Storm did for nearby Gloucester.

In just 6 days on youtube, the views of the films trailer have climbed to almost 20,000 and continue to grow. And while most people find the trailer amusing, a few did not. Everyones entitled to their opinion, said Bash Naran, Head Producer. But none of us expected threats. Its pretty ridiculous.

At this point, weve simply noted where the threat came from. Im not going to comment on what we will do about it just yet because honestly, I just dont know, said Joel Greenberg. The threat was posted on the youtube page and it said: If this is what you think of Peabody, then stay the F out…. And dont ever come back… if you know whats good for you.

We couldnt believe what we were reading, said Naran. Were talking about a fictional film, but Joel and I dont believe that comment was geared towards our fictional characters.

I think there were a lot of misconceptions about what this film really is, and what its not, said Joel Greenberg, the films director. First of all, its NOT about the real Peabody, Massachusetts. It was just set there. And secondly, although Peabody is my real hometown, the title is not referring to me. Its referring to Richard Dickson and Reese Bieber, and all the fictional characters in the movie. It was their hometown. And if Peabody didnt approve and sign off on it, we would have shot the script elsewhere, using other locals instead. Bottom line is were filmmakers and were gonna make the movie wherever.

Before the city signed off, they asked for a synopsis, and thats what we gave them, said Bash Naran, Head Producer. No one ever read – or asked for – the whole script. We just paid the fees for the use of the school, did what we were told we needed to do, and we made an award winning film. Peabody should be proud to be part of that process – especially with the attention its getting in Hollywood.

Shooting a movie in the city I grew up in was the best filmmaking experience Ive ever had. Everyone in Peabody was just great to work with, and we had some incredible times together on set. Anyone who thinks that whats in this movie is what I really think of Peabody, and anyone who thinks this is the least bit true must be as dumb as our characters – plain and simple, said Greenberg.

If you enjoy raunchy comedies, My Hometown, starring Ryan Merriman, Mark Munford, Casey Margolis, and Pinky, will take you on a hilarious wild ride that you wont soon forget. Mixing real locals with professional Hollywood actors all throughout, My Hometown tells the story of three local high school buddies who team up to help Richard Dickson graduate by completing an assignment. Richards assignment – make a movie about his hometown and why its such a great place to live. Richards problem – he doesnt believe it is. While completing this assignment to graduate, he accidentally stumbles upon a sinister plot by a high school janitor to get revenge on the mayor of the city for ruining his reputation and unjustly firing him.

The filmmakers have since removed all the comments on youtube, and changed their settings so that anyone who comments now must be a contact of theirs on youtube.

Either/Orchestra to Make February Appearances in Providence and Boston February 3 at F?te, Providence February 24 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Boston

Somerville, MA (PRWEB) January 31, 2012

The ten-piece Either/Orchestra performs twice in February with the New England premieres of The Collected Unconscious, a new suite composed by band founder Russ Gershon and based on the pentatonic modes of and triple rhythms of Ethiopian music. The language of the suite goes far beyond those parameters, recalling Ellington, Mingus, Tito Puente, Sun Ra and others in its broad scope. Audiences will find it moving and nostalgic as well as hot, exotic and exciting.

February 3 finds the group at F?te in Providence RI. Doors open at 7, music at 8. Tickets are $ 10 in advance, $ 12 at the door. F?te website

February 24 the E/O brings the music back to its home base of Boston, with an appearance at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, in the New Music Now series. Music begins at 7:30. Tickets are $ 18, $ 16 for ICA members. ICA website

Greg Haymes reviewed The Collected Unconscious in the Albany Times-Union: “Slinky and sensual one moment, nostalgic and bluesy the next, Gershon led the band through the complex and constantly shifting time signatures while remaining undeniably swinging throughout.” He added, “[the E/O] wrapped up the concert with Gershon’s tasty slab of New Orleans street funk, ‘Somethin’ for NOLA,’ proving without a doubt that a band of eclectic, esoteric jazzbos could get down and get funky, too.”

The program will also include musical highlights from the E/O’s May 2011 tour of Ethiopia. Sponsored by the US, French and Spanish governments, the E/O restored and revived music written by Nerses Nalbandian, an Armenian expatriate who shaped modern Ethiopian music from his position as music director of the Haile Selassie National Theater during the 1950s and 60s.

Founded in 1985 by Gershon, the ten-piece Either/Orchestra (E/O) is New England’s premier jazz ensemble, Grammy nominees and perennial poll-winners. Their live show is a dazzling blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms, precision big-band ensemble work and exotic Ethiopian sounds. A colorful six-piece horn section is matched by a rhythm section of piano, bass, drums and congas, including musicians from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Brazil. Their performances are fun and broadly appealing, sophisticated and uplifting.

Critics and audiences worldwide have savored the E/O’s music through over 1000 performances, 11 CDs and a DVD. “Dependably marvelous,” writes Richard Gehr in the Village Voice; “the best little big band ever,” according to the editor of Down Beat, Frank Alkyer; “serious chops and courageous experimentation with a strong sense of entertainment and subtle humor” is how Jeff Tamarkin described the EO in JazzTimes earlier this year.

The E/O has played at Lincoln Center, the Glastonbury (UK) Pop Festival, the Chicago, Monterey, Toronto, North Sea, Vancouver and many other major jazz festivals, theaters in Milan, Stockholm, Helsinki, Paris, Rome, Germany, Portugal, Uganda, Russia and clubs everywhere. They are known for crossing over to non-jazz audiences with their fiery and exciting show. Hard-core jazz fans appreciate the great playing and arrangements, general audiences connect instantly with the personalities, deep grooves and memorable melodies.

The E/O has a 14 year relationship with the music of Ethiopia, and have become the jazz world’s leading non-Ethiopian players of this music. May 2011 was their second visit to that country; the first, in 2004, yielded the Ethiopiques 20: Live in Addis CD, which received rave reviews: “Astonishing…monumental…the best live album of the yearin any genre” Paul Olson, AllAboutJazz.com; “a total triumph” Budd Kopman, AllAboutJazz.com; “Incredible” Tim Perlich, Now Magazine, Toronto; “[A] completely remarkable recording.” Norman Weinstein, AllAboutJazz.com; “Sends the senses into the very heart and soul of communal human love…A force that dares to break barriers.” Lofton A. Emenari III, WHPK, Chicago

Composition and presentation of The Collected Unconscious has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America. In 2010, Gershon received this New York-based organization’s prestigious Jazz New Works and Ensemble Development grant, tailored toward the needs of a composer working with a specific ensemble.

Over the past year, in celebration of its 25th anniversary, the E/O convened spectacular alumni reunion concerts in Boston and NYC which featured 28 musicians including such luminaries as Miguel Zenon, John Medeski, Josh Roseman and Matt Wilson.

“Warmth and good humor that makes the music immediately accessible…fabulous musicians, performing terrific music with great creative skill.” Bruce Lindsay, allaboutjazz.com

“Serious chops and courageous experimentation with a strong sense of entertainment and subtle humor…for 25 years the Either/Orchestra has given much both to audiences and [the musicians] who’ve passed through its ranks.” Jeff Tamarkin, JazzTimes

“Boston’s ten-piece Either/Orchestra makes its own rules.” Brad Farberman, Time Out New York

“One of the few bands around equally at home at the Vision Festival, the Roseland Ballroom or CBGB.” Will Friedwald, Wall Street Journal

“…Individual virtuosity, a devotion to strong melodic lines, a wry wit, a love of excitement and surprise, a genuine fellow-feeling on the bandstand, and feedback from audience regulars that makes performances feel something like family reunions.” Steve Elman, artsfuse.org

Jerry McTaggart, Founder of Christian Credit Counselors, Appears on Good Samaritan Program TV to Talk About Catherine’s Children’s Homes

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

Jerry McTaggart believes he is more blessed than the children he helps. As a man who dropped out of school after the tenth grade, he has not only excelled as a businessman, but has also thrived as a philanthropist who seems to be working even more in his retirement years.

In an interview shown Monday on Good Samaritan Program TV, McTaggart gave viewers some insight into his involvement with Catherine’s Children’s Home and how essential and rewarding his work with the organization really is.

Catherine’s Children’s Home was founded in 2005 to promote the health and well-being of special needs children, orphans and the most impoverished sections of the population. Catherine’s works to support the population of Mexico by reducing their vulnerability caused by inadequate healthcare services and the absence of suitable services and care – primarily through providing better access to healthcare services, promoting healthcare awareness and mobilizing communities to make sustainable changes.

McTaggart heads up the board of directors for Catherine’s and after retiring as CEO of Christian Credit Counselors in 2006, was able to devote his full attention to expanding the organization and helping as many special-needs kids as possible.

In the interview, he spoke about a boy he and Catherine’s was able to help who had spina bifida, a club foot and a brain tumor. After several procedures and hospitals, the boy beat the odds and would not be needing to learn to live as a quadriplegic.

“You’d never know he’d had all those problems today,” McTaggart said.

The children McTaggart has dedicated his retirement years to helping are many times abandoned, special-needs kids who have had a tough go at life so far. McTaggart lived in a children’s home for five years in the United States during his childhood, so he understands a portion of what these kids are going through.

“These aren’t bad kids,” McTaggart said. “These are kids who need a home.”

McTaggart is currently establishing a new Catherine’s home in Rosarito, Mexico. To view the full interview and episode with Jerry McTaggart, visit the Good Samaritan Program TV ministry page on Faith Channel.

Global Music Recording Market to Reach US$32.4 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 26, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn Music recording industry is witnessing a transition phase with the advent of digital technologies. Popularity of digital music is steadily growing with online songs, including mobile music spreading fast across the globe. Physical album sales have declined over the years, as a result of increasing adoption of digital music. Global music recording industry although saddled by issues such as music piracy, and illegal content sharing, continues to live on with players in this traditional media industry befriending the much feared digital technology in their efforts to change and remain relevant in a changing marketplace. Interestingly, new recording studios have been established in recent years as a result of companies leveraging the digital technology. Traditional recording companies have embraced digital music recording in a big way, and today digital recording accounts for a major portion of revenues generated by the recording industry, followed by physical recording on CD & DVD, and other physical formats. In line with the trend, online music licensing by the record companies is also shooting up.

Music industry has always been plagued by piracy issues. Violation of intellectual property rights in the form of music piracy is especially a major issue with digital music. Music piracy runs amok in the industry with numerous fly by night hackers, armed with fast optical drives, large and cost-effective storages in PCs, powerful microprocessors, and wide spread access to broadband Internet, illegally downloading copyrighted music tracks. Increase in peer-to-peer network services, which allow surfers to copy songs, and movies without having to pay for legally obtaining such content only compounded the problem of illegal downloads further. Even the most stringent copyright protection regulations and anti-piracy laws that the music industry has initiated for addressing challenges posed by these services have not been able to completely eliminate piracy in this marketplace.

However, innovations in technology and online distribution strategies have to some extent helped reduce the instances of illegal copying and sharing of files thus helping drive legitimate music sales over the last few years. iTunes, Apples online distribution format for instance, presents optimum defenses against illegal downloading of music through peer-to-peer networks. Apples first defense against attempted piracy is the configuration of the service in a manner that disallows transfer of songs from the internet onto CD-ROM, and other playback devices, and simultaneously puts a spoke in piracy through a speed bump. Astute pricing strategy established by the company offers single tracks, and a complete album for almost the same price. Apples iTunes additionally allows users to create unencrypted MP3 versions of music tracks, thereby enhancing the online music download experience of legitimate users. This, thereby, reinforces the importance of curbing piracy in order to elevate the industrys legitimate sales. To stem the evil of illegal downloading of digital content establishment of a foolproof legal system is a must.

Cloud technology is also making its mark in the music industry, allowing music lovers to store and access their own collection of tracks or even access a catalogue of music tracks owned by a service provider from a dedicated online space over the Internet. In addition, cloud services reduce the users worries of interoperability of files, as the service providers ensure the universal playability of the tracks. Introduction of several licensed cloud based music services will help boost market prospects for the recording industry over the next few years.

Lane Weinberg: Breaking New Ground Along the Final Frontier

Wilbraham, MA (PRWEB) January 26, 2012

Intrepid blogger Lane Weinberg is at it again, announcing new milestones this week in his burgeoning blogging career.

Weinberg the voice behind popular blogs on HubPages, Suite 101 and elsewhere this week celebrated the second anniversary of his popular science fiction/fantasy-themed blog A Goblin, a Unicorn and a Dragon: A World of Fantasy by posting his 5,000th reader comment. The blog turned two years old on Jan. 20, and the plateau-busting 5,000th comment came on the post Grimurl, Part 1 Weinbergs 250th on his World of Fantasy blog.

There are other blogs, obviously, that have more posts and more comments, Lane Weinberg noted. But as busy as I am in this medium, as a professional blogger, Im just getting started.

Grimurl, Part 1 is the beginning of a series of short stories Weinberg, an author and candidate for a Masters Degree in creative writing at Harvard University. Previous posts on the World of Fantasy blog have combined the writers personal work with comments on (and links to) subjects as diverse as astronomy, freelance writing, character development and his favorite works by other authors.

It is extremely gratifying to know that my blogs strike a chord with readers and other writers, Lane Weinberg said. For a writer, theres nothing more satisfying than producing something that connects with an audience, whether its a book, a magazine article or a blog post. The fact that so many people have not only taken the time to read the posts Ive shared but to comment and continue these discussions is very inspiring, and at the same time truly humbling.

The 5,000th reader comment, posted by mitchray409, praised the opening Grimurl paragraphs and urged Weinberg to keep on posting: Im already hooked to find out what happens next! Plz write quickly.

In addition to the milestone post and response, Weinberg a Reading, Pennsylvania native also announced this week the release of his newest blog, a self-titled profile page on BrightHub.com. Weinbergs first post included tips on how amateur astronomers can help NASA and other scientists locate exoplanets outside of the Solar System.

Finding exoplanets has become the hot new craze amongst both amateur and professional astronomers, Lane Weinberg wrote in the post, which covers such topics as selecting the right telescope for your particular astronomical interests and the best techniques for employing the photometric transit method, which detects exoplanets based on light shifts caused when these distant worlds pass in front of their hosts stars.

Astronomy is a common theme on Weinbergs many blogs, including the BlogSpot titles Lane Weinberg Presents Space Exploration and Thoughts on Astronomy and other sites gracing the Suite 101, AbsoluteWrite and Triod hosting services. Under the name Lane W. Heymont, which combines his own name with his paternal grandfathers, Weinberg also maintains a well-followed Twitter account.

These subject matters are very near and dear to me, Lane Weinberg said. Not only is science fiction the ultimate writers canvas a genre where you can literally do anything, and where the best works have always applied futuristic creativity to the most critical and relevant real-life social issues of the time but actual science is such a breeding ground for great storytelling. The adventures of space shuttle pilots, astronomers involved in (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and those who are right now conducting the actual exploration of other worlds are just as exciting as anything see in the movies. And theyre inherently more human, because theyre real.

Just like theres no end of the possibilities when it comes to science and fantasy literature, I dont think theres any end to the number of blogs I might create, or the topics they might cover, the writer added. As long as the human mind is capable of imagining new frontiers and then finding ways to explore them, there will be interesting stories to tell.

About Lane Weinberg

Lane Weinberg, 27, is an author and blogger in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he currently attends creative writing classes at Harvard University and has been writing for almost two decades. An avid fan of astronomy and philosophy, Lane Weinberg enjoys spending time with his two nephews, his niece and his four dogs.
